I was finally contacted yesterday morning regarding my claim by a person from ASAPtickets. (approximately 9 months after) my original ticket purchase.

The case manager said that he would get back to me regarding my case. Still not a resolution but at least a glimmer of hope that something might be done. Until now, I had repeatedly called my agent, posted on Pissed Consumer. Called ASAP tickets.

Read what little information I had from ITN travel coverage. Read other people's postings on Pissed Consumer. Considered contacted my state attorney general. I never set out to try and do a research project on travel insurance but there are a lot of nuances that you will find if you do dig into it.

Most of which seem to provide the insurance company room to handle claims in a seemingly arbitrary basis. Do your homework before you spend thousands of dollars that you might never see again. Keep your receipts. You will be asked for a lot of detailed information.

If not be prepared to be involved in a protracted, time-consuming, stressful dispute. Once they have your money, they do not make it easy to get it back (in spite of purchasing their travel insurance and thinking you had purchased a product that would cover events beyond your personal control). I received this email yesterday from another company selling travel insurance. It seems pretty thorough but it still leaves wiggle room for the insurance company to not pay for a claim that you might expect to be covered.logo_

User's recommendation: Investigate exactly what your travel coverage provides. It seems that non-refundable is a common claim (unless you buy your tickets direct from the airline).
